Renewal by Andersen of Central Virginia Donates Window and Door to Local Family Impacted by Cancer

/ / Uncategorized

A Central Virginia family is now resting easier after receiving a new Renewal by Andersen window and sliding door—installed completely free of charge.

Rhonda and Terry C. initially met with Cathy Brooks, a Design Consultant from Renewal by Andersen of Central Virginia, to purchase a new window and door. However, when financing fell through, it seemed their plans would have to change.

The design consultation with Cathy came during an especially challenging time for the family. Over the past year, Rhonda was diagnosed with cancer, making it necessary for her to leave her job to focus on treatment. After learning Rhonda and Terry’s story, team members from Renewal by Andersen of Central Virginia’s Sales and Customer Logistics departments rallied together to make this project a reality, aligning with Renewal by Andersen’s ongoing commitment to the fight against cancer.

Each October, Renewal by Andersen locations nationwide participate in United Against Cancer, a month-long initiative in partnership with the American Cancer Society to raise funds for the fight against cancer. In 2024, Renewal by Andersen of Central Virginia and Renewal by Andersen of Roanoke contributed a combined $7,616.75 to support these efforts.

Supporting the Cook family allowed Renewal by Andersen of Central Virginia to expand the mission of United Against Cancer beyond the month of October.

“When I learned of the situation [Rhonda and Terry] were going through and that they could not get approved for financing, I thought it was a great way to try to take care of their pressing need of a new gliding window and gliding door that needed to be replaced,” said Renewal by Andersen of Central Virginia CEO Page Ewell. “We wish them the best and we are glad we can assist in making their home a more comfortable and safer place for the family to live for years to come.”

Rhonda has now completed her cancer treatments and returned to her work in real estate. Inspired by the recent improvements to her home, she is excited to embrace this new chapter of her life.

“The first thing I noticed was the crystal-clear way that I could see out of the window, and that made me feel like I had a crystal-clear vision of my future,” Rhonda said. “I feel like I’ve been put back together.”
