Renewal by Andersen of Central Virginia Donates Door to Local Couple
Elmore and Lisa J. of Richmond, VA are celebrating a new and improved entrance to their home thanks to Renewal by Andersen of Central Virginia’s donation of a new front door.
For the last couple of years, the homeowners knew that they needed a new front door due to drafts and wood rot around the frame.
“There were a few storms that came and loosened the wood, and then we also had a termite issue,” Lisa J. said of the original front door. “It got to the point where we weren’t able to keep a lot of heat in because of the door’s condition.”
Replacing the front door was even more urgent due to Elmore J.’s health and limited mobility.
“Because of the health issues with my husband, because we had to locate his bedroom right by the front door with him not being able to go upstairs—it needed the work. It needed to be done.”
Overcoming Financing Hurdles with Renewal by Andersen
The process began in November of 2023, when the homeowners sat down with Renewal by Andersen Design Consultant Carl Bernard to discuss purchasing a new front door. But when difficulty securing financing threatened to stop the project from moving forward, Carl brought the situation to Renewal by Andersen of Central Virginia’s CEO, Page Ewell.
“[Lisa J] wasn’t asking for anything,” Carl explained. “To see how positive [the homeowners] are really drove me to go out of my way, and to be part of this project, and this company, is a total blessing and an honor for me.”
Page agreed, stating, “After Carl told us about this couple and the gracious, caring people that they are, we just felt that it was the right decision to make. These are people we felt we could help, and it inspires us to do more to give back to our community, whether it’s through single donations like this or through nonprofits.”
Giving Back & Transforming Homes in Central Virginia
Renewal by Andersen of Central Virginia has a proud record of giving back to the local community, supporting causes such as The Angel Tree, The American Cancer Society, and collecting supplies for Henrico schools, all in the past year, but this project was the first direct-to-homeowner donation.
Renewal by Andersen of Central Virginia’s Certified Master Installers worked diligently throughout the morning and early afternoon of February 13 to replace the door, frame, and sidelights, leaving the homeowners with a new, energy-efficient front door that complements their home. The homeowners were immediately pleased with the results.
“It was a hazard,” Elmore J. said of the original door. “But now that it’s fixed, I’m grateful.”
